What are the rules for mirrors on a wall?

When it comes to hanging a mirror on a wall, be it in a hallway, living room or bedroom, you should consider the following:

  • Ensure the mirror is hung at general eye-level. Although heights in the household may vary, you should hang the mirror at a height that is eye-level for all adults in the household
  • If you do want to make a small room look bigger, hanging the mirror higher can help and vice versa in a large room, a lower hanging mirror can make the space feel cosier
  • Avoid hanging a mirror where direct sunlight will hit it - this can be a fire hazard as the light bounces on to other things
  • Ensure the reflection in your mirror is something you like the look of - you will now be able to see that view twice!

How to attach a mirror to a wall?

Our range of extra large and large mirrors can be heavy, so we recommend attaching these with wall plugs and screws. Heavy mirrors should be hung with caution and you should seek professional help if you’re unsure how to do so carefully. Lighter mirrors can be fitted using hanging nails or adhesive options such as damage-free adhesive strips for pictures and mirrors.

Does a large mirror make a room look bigger?

As a general rule, mirrors will make a room look bigger due to reflecting areas of the room and brightening a space by reflecting light. However, the positioning of your mirror can make a particular difference to how big or small it makes a room look. Hanging mirrors higher in small rooms can open the space more so than if hung at the typical eye-level. We recommend testing your mirror at different heights to find what works for your space.

Are round mirrors in style?

Round mirrors are considered modern and contemporary. The endless nature of the shape of the mirror is minimal and effortless, meaning round mirrors can fit into any room. Although the size and colour of a round mirror can be a feature, the shape is generally simplistic and therefore doesn’t become an overpowering feature if you don’t want it to.

Is a round mirror good for a living room?

Living room mirrors come in all shapes and sizes but round mirrors work very well for adding different shapes to living rooms. Thinking about typical living room furniture - chairs, sofas, TV stands and TVs themselves, everything can be very straight and angular, so the additional of a round mirror can soften the shapes of the room and add some more dimension.
